Evaluation of Elective Courses at LTH
Information for external course representative
We hope that you will enjoy participating in the evaluation process and see this as an opportunity to contribute to a better learning experience for future students and to further course development. Your participation should not require too much effort, but it will be an important part of enhancing the courses and study programmes at the Faculty of Engineering LTH.
The role of a Course representative
As an external course representative, you will actively participate in course evaluations representing the views of your peers. Remember that each student has a personal learning experience, and you,
as a course representative, represent them all. Also, note that the feedback should be constructive and respectful, so that it can be used for course development.
Responsibilities
- Representing your fellow students.
- Encouraging your course mates to express their opinions and learning experiences.
- Attending a follow-up meeting.
- Reviewing the working report and summarizing the views of the students for a final report.
Why evaluate courses?
At the Faculty of Engineering LTH we conduct course evaluations because we want to:
- Encourage students to take more responsibility for their own learning.
- Gather experiences and perceptions from all parties involved concerning our courses and study programmes.
- Assure the quality of the courses and create a solid basis for future enhancement.
- Meet external stakeholders' quality expectations in higher education e.g. from business life and other higher education institutions, other universities).
- Comply with the Higher Education Ordinance, which states that students must be given the chance to influence their courses and study programmes.
Further information about course evaluation at LTH is found in a policy document with supplementary instructions. Please read through if you are interested in gaining a deeper understanding of course evaluations.
The course evaluation process
At the end of the course, you will receive an email with a web survey invitation. In some cases, the course instructor has ordered a paper survey instead of the online survey. Course Experience Questionnaire (CEQ) is a survey tool used at LTH for evaluating courses. Course evaluations can be divided into three types:
- Compulsory courses with 30 participants or more
The student councils are responsible for the evaluation and appoint course representatives.
- Large elective courses with 30 participants or more
The student council can appoint a course representative. Otherwise, the course instructor is responsible for encouraging course participants to select one.
- Small elective courses evaluated with "simplified procedure"
The CEQ survey isn't normally used for smaller courses. However, the course instructor is responsible for choosing an appropriate method for course evaluation. Most importantly, students should get an opportunity to provide anonymous feedback.
Working report
When the survey has closed, the student council will revise the open answers and after which a working report will be prepared. The report serves as a basis for the final assessment. The course instructor will send the working report to you for scrutiny. However, no working report is generated for small courses. Instead, you and the course instructor, add comments directly for the final report.
Writing comments
Before writing comments for the final report, you and the course instructor will have a meeting to discuss the course and the results from the survey. This meeting will also be the occasion for you to add proposed changes, views on the course, schedule collisions, other relevant information you have received and so on.
To enter the comments in the CEQ-database, you'll need a link which is provided by the course instructor.
Please note that you can't edit or remove saved comments. For any changes contact ceq@lth.lu.se
Final evaluation report
A final report will be prepared after the comments have been added to the CEQ-database. It contains basic data about the course, course syllabus, rating scales (only for CEQ surveys) and your comments. Viewing past final reports will give you an overall picture.
All registered students on the course will receive an email with a link to the final report when the evaluation is completed. The final reports are published on LTH's internal website.
Contact for further information
