Studierådets kommentarer
Overall, students had a positive view of the course, even though only seven of the 36 registered students responded (about 19%). Most respondents were happy with the course (around 70% said they were satisfied), and none were dissatisfied. However most students (both accounting those who answered the report and those who did not) said that the lack of feedback during the course was negative. On average, they rated their overall satisfaction at +57, and they felt the course was clearly relevant to their education (+86).
What worked well
● Teaching was generally appreciated, especially the teachers’ willingness to help and explain things.
● The exam was seen as focusing on understanding rather than memorisation. ● Many felt the course helped them develop useful skills like analytical thinking, problem solving, and written communication.
● In free-text comments, students highlighted:
○ Helpful and well-structured computer exercises.
○ Supportive teachers, particularly during the exercises.
○ Assignments and the take-home exam linked well to what they had practised. ○ The independence built into the course was valued by several students.
Suggestions for improvement
● Several asked for clearer feedback on assignments and examples of good ways to tackle tasks. This is the most important thing to improve according to most students. ● Some wanted lectures to focus more on how to use bioinformatics databases and tools. ● A few felt group discussions could be better organised.
● There were occasional comments about workload, e.g. fewer or differently scheduled exercise sessions.
Conclusion
Students generally saw the course as relevant and worthwhile, with good support from the teachers and an exam that rewarded real understanding. The main areas for improvement were clearer guidance, more feedback, and more focused demonstrations of databases and tools.
