Studierådets kommentarer

Studenterna är nöjda med de perspektiv de får under kursen. Diskussioner om olika problem och lösningar var det som fångade studenternas intresse. Det studenterna efterfrågar är någonting som kan hjälpa dem med motivationen att arbeta kontinuerligt med kursen. Det kan vara en deadline eller case-uppgift som gör att studenterna pressas lite mer

Kurslärarens kommenterer

For this year we had a wider range of scores and comments from the class. Some students liked the open approach where we gave them plenty of freedom in the projects, but there were some who struggled more in this type of project work. In general, it was good that they appreciated the alternative innovation mindset and approach that we try to follow in class. From their feedback, we propose the following improvements. There should be a clearer starting point in the project since some students had a hard time navigating through the wide range of potential topics or "problems" that need to be tackled in their student projects. We propose to use the UN Sustainable Development Goals as the starting point, because it will give them enough freedom and responsibility to choose, without constraining their creativity with too much rigidity and structure in terms of topics. We also need to explain further in the course, especially in the first few days, how this innovation approach is relevant for their education and future careers; how the design-inspired approach to creativity and innovation is much needed in the food and packaging industries (e.g., relate it more to practice), so that they will see more clearly the importance of the course. We received comments that the students do not see the need for the additional individual reports, but we will continue to stress its significance in their learning process. We will continue with this requirement because it is meant for them to show their individual reflections and their learning process throughout the innovation group projects, to distinguish their individual learning from the group project output. This parallels our emphasis on the importance of reflection throughout the innovation process. However, we need to improve on our communication of this requirement to the students; they need to understand better that the value of it is for themselves, to reflect on their learning, instead of them viewing it as just unnecessary work.
